New app release notes: v 5.0.2 (Android) & v 5.3.1 (iOS)

Why the huge version jump on the iOS version?

To be honest, I think it was a miscommunication within the mobile team, haha.

Speaking from the outside as a long-time software developer, not all software works like a counting system. There are many releases which don’t make their way to the public, internal test releases, other versions that are skipped for various reasons.

Also, there is almost never feature parity between Android and iOS versions of mobile apps. Some apps are released more frequently on one platform vs. the other, to keep in step with that platform’s OS updates or close bugs found or other issues that necessitate incrementing releases more frequently there vs. the other.

Or, developers miscommunicating releases.

As long as you don’t get pushed a lesser version which confuses your device, I wouldn’t worry about it. Keep a sharp eye on the ChangeLog for each release before updating any of your apps, and update if/when it makes sense to do so.

It’s almost always a bad idea to let your device auto-update itself or its apps. This applies to OS updates, desktop applications and anything else that is updated frequently.
